For most of this month, 4 brilliant female artists will be showing their works in a collective exhibition at Poole’s (England) gallery Lighthouse. With the title “Journey”, Linda Sale, Sarah Lou Goy, Lisa Lewis and Sarah Humby are sharing the space in an interesting combination of colourful pieces, on display from 2nd May and until the 23rd. The private view is on Thursday 14th.

“Making art is like experiencing a series ofadventures without knowing their destinations – it is important to keep taking in the view, to know when to stop” Lisa Lewis.

About the artists

Sarah Humby interprets the theme in her ‘Travelling Light’ series of paintings and drawings. Capturing the movement of light and allowing the viewer a freeze framed instant within a sense of onward momentum.

Sensitive, expressive and tactile, Lisa Lewis’s work draws reference from the landscape and the human form. “Making art is like experiencing a series ofadventures without knowing their destinations – it is important to keep taking in the view, to know when to stop”.

From extensive travels, Sarah L Goy creates visual journals; drawings, paintings and often commentary. The observations she makes allow us anintimate step into her autobiographical view of the world. As well as recent works, Sarah shares with us a glimpse of material from the mountain of sketchbooks in her personal collection.

Linda Sale’s sensual work takes us on journeys through the human landscape. Her choice of colour is symbolic rather than representationaland her use of gold leaf echoes the spirituality of religious iconographic art. We had the chance to ask Linda some questions on the exhibition and his artworks. Linda’s interest in figure drawing started in 1978 on an art foundation course. She has attended many tutored and untutored life drawing sessions in order to improve her understanding and ability. Often working in pencil and charcoal – preferring to focus on line, tone and form. She also has a fascination for icons and altar pieces – admiring the symbolism of colour, composition and forms. This has influenced her work. Her own choice of colour is symbolic rather than representational and her use of gold leaf echoes the spirituality of religious iconographic art. Recently Linda has started to produce digital drawings and paintings – working from both observation and imagination. She also enjoys experimenting with different media and techniques in order to create a variety textures and to explore a single theme.

For Linda, the most challenging side of breaking in as an artist is “Being accepted into galleries and finding outlets for our work – the usual catch 22 of needing good quality exhibitions under your belt to get into good quality exhibitions! Working as a group can give you the chance to take on bigger and more prestigious venues.”
After this exhibition, where Linda is presenting four of her pieces, she is ready “to get back into the studio. Having spent many months preparing for this exhibition i think we all now have so many ideas we need to get on with!”
