When a promo pop up gets your attention! Michael McArthur

By on 2013/11/26

OK. I am not a regular subject for online advertising measuring as I usually deliberately pay attention to adverts as part of my job and because of my passion for Advertising and communication in general. But anyhow, like we mostly all do, when I click on a site and a pop up window with some random advert (usually bingo sites!) I tend to close them off straight away. It wasn’t the case, for the first time, when this one came up and the first beats of Michael McArthur’s Lose My Mind started to sound out of my laptop’s speakers. I was hooked. He’s got a soft husky voice and the simplicity of the sound of the track, recorded in his living room and just with his guitar as his companion, gets into your head in an instant.

I had the pleasure to interview him recently with the purpose of getting to know more about this Florida based natural born artist.

The Creative Post: Who is Michael McArthur?
Michael McArthur: I’m a singer/song writer from Florida.

T.C.P.: You started playing the guitar quiet young when given to you as a gift. Was this when your interest in music started?
M.M.: My interest in music began as far back as I can remember. I was a singer first. My parents have videos of me singing around the house at an early age. 5 or so. I picked up the guitar, because I wanted to write songs. And I didn’t want to have to sing along to Boyz II Men tracks for the rest of my life. – How was the process of learning to play to become a singer-songwriter? I loved (and still love) it. My daily mission is progress. It’s like anything. You’ll only take the car as far as you’re willing to drive it. And passion is the fuel.

T.C.P.: How do you define your sound?
M.M.: Smooth, soulful pop/rock.

T.C.P.: Who and what inspires you?
M.M.: People inspire me. And the desire to positively impact their lives in the same way that music has mine, keeps me going. I want to make sure I’m not just taking up valuable space on this earth. Music is love. There can never be too much.

T.C.P.: Which artists you admire?
M.M.: There are many. But I grew up on Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, and Boyz II Men. Also, James Taylor and Ray Charles. And John Mayer. He’s his generation’s greatest singer/song writer.

T.C.P.: Tell us about your album release and current musical projects
M.M.: I released my debut EP “The Year of You and Me” last August. And last September 27th, I released “The Home Recordings” EP. It’ll have the same track list as “The Year of You and Me”, but the songs are stripped down to acoustic guitar and voice. I’m really proud, because I recorded it at my home in Florida, and I think it offers a deeper look into the soul of the songs.

Will you be touring in Europe sometime soon?
M.M.: Definitely. I’m doing my rounds here in the US, so I’m not sure how soon “soon” is. But I will be there.
